8 mature rain trees were transplanted within the compound due to redevelopment of Empress Place & Esplanade Park in 2015. The project marked the heaviest tree lifting work ever done in Singapore, with each tree weighing around 80-90 ton and had the technical challenge of maneuvering such massive crowned trees within a really confined space.
Support systems were implemented after the transplant to increase the survival rate of the trees and aid their adjustment to the new environment.
The trees had done exceptionally well after all these years and today, they stand beautiful and significant, holding their own amongst the surrounding historical buildings.
